How to Find Friends Online
How to Find Friends Online by Bernice Eker
Many people choose to find friends and companions on the Internet. There, so called friend finder web sites are hugely popular. Some of them specialize in just matching people up as friends and some of them specialize in finding people actual relationships. As you might expect, there are a fair number of these sites which promote more adult relationships. Really, however, that is neither here nor there. The point is that a great many people find happiness through sites like these, whether they are looking for friends or more serious relationships.
Any social group can find friends and companions on one of these sites. Literally, there is something for every group out there. Some friend finder web sites cater solely to teenagers and young adults - these tend to be closely monitored as well, so parents can be fairly certain that nothing untoward will be happening. Naturally, many sites also cater just to adults looking for love or friendship, or simple affairs. If you like comic books and anime, there will likely be tons of similar sites out there for you. The same goes for people who like cats, dogs, video games, books, movies, et cetera. Basically, you can find a friend finder site tailored to fit any of your hobbies and interests. This makes it much easier to find people with whom you already have something in common, which can take a lot of the awkwardness inherent in first meetings right out of the picture.
Depending on which sites you cruise, you can find just about anything you are looking for - and anyone as well. Like say, if you simply want a companion, someone to talk to and hang out with, there are many sites like that. If you want a casual dating relationship, there are sites for that as well. Likewise, there are sites which specialize in helping you find true love. Sexuality is not an issue either. There are heterosexual sites as well as those geared to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities.
The Internet makes it incredibly easy to find friends, whether they are platonic or romantic. You have the added benefit of being able to meet people who live in other places. All of us are aware that many people who have met over the Internet have wound up getting engaged and married.
Still, despite the convenience and possible opportunities, you need to exercise extreme caution. Being careful should be your first priority. Make sure that you only say as much as you need to; you should be honest, up front, about what you are looking for, but do not under any circumstances make any of your personal information available to the public.
Now, that does not mean that you cannot reveal hobbies or interests. Just be careful and do not tell anyone too much before you get to know them pretty well. Otherwise, have at it; list whether you want a friend or a relationship, list your hobbies, and have fun looking for someone who shares your interests.
