Does Gay Marriages Illustrate a ‘Perfect Marital’ Relationship? by Rashmi Menon

The real definition of the word ‘marriage’ is threatened with the gay and lesbian relationships happening around the world. There were days when ‘marriage’ was only and only between heterosexuals and there was not even a tinge of doubt of same-sex unions ever entering the status of marriages. But the question which really arises now is: ‘Are gay marriages the picture of the future world?’

Well, the two sides of a coin argue with never-ending facts and points. Let us first consider the points to be noted in favor of gay marriages.

1)The instincts in gays or lesbians have been God-made, not inculcated or forcibly induced in them or just a serious attempt to break out from the norm. For them, their instincts are natural, so why are they always on the questionable front?

2)If gay marriages are destroying the meaning of marriages, what could possibly explain that more than half of the “normal” marriages are ending up in divorce and half of the children of our population are born out of wedlock? So, what can be defined as ‘sin’ now and in which aspect?

3)With many of the marriages slipping into the dungeons of adultery, how can we say that heterosexual marriages depict the ‘sanctity of the institution’ when the entire scenario of marriage is in jeopardy? Can we even describe what a healthy marital relationship is without considering the high divorce rates and infidelity issues?

4)If gay marriages are being so ridiculed and hyped at, why are the Las Vegas-style weddings still considered classy and glamorous?

5)If marriage is only a process for procreation, then is there any value for love and emotions in this connection?

There are no valid answers to the above questions nor can we ignore the unfathomable arguments of the heterosexuals. If the gays and lesbians are given the legal ‘license’ of marriage, what is the society actually describing as to the sensitive balance of marriage? In short, what is marriage without a man and woman?

The bottom line of any marital relationship is love, trust and happiness. Gays are just emphasizing on this fact that they too have the right to become legal partners and get connected for life. A marriage is the strong bond which holds two people together and connects them for life. Gays all over the world would definitely want to enjoy the beauty of marriage and a life in a marital relationship? Are they asking for more or isn’t it their right too?

Gay marriages have been banned in 48 states of America, which means only 4 percent of the country considers gays as ‘normals’ and a marriage between them a natural and possible occurrence. Gays are constantly protesting hard for their rights to consider them as normal, healthy beings of the society who have no intention of destroying any basic principles of life. The journey is long in order to decide who is going to win and will the term gays ever be mentioned in a normal conversation in the society? Time will answer the truth.

Rashmi Menon is deeply concerned with discussions on marriages and gay unions and gives predominant importance to such matters. Please check out the discussions on Gay Marriages to learn more about the arguments from both sides.
